What is the neutral atom that has its first two energy levels filled, has 2 electrons in its third energy level, and has no other electrons? Enter the name of the element, not the abbreviation.

Solutions

Expert Solution

First two energy levels filled means the electronic configuration is 1s2 2s2 2p6

and it has two electrons in it's third energy level means 3s2

So the total electron configuration is 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2

Total number of electrons = 12 and the atomic number is 12.

The element with atomic number 12 is Magnesium. The symbol for magnesium is Mg.
