How are the functions of the accessory digestive organs similar in a shark and mudpuppy?

Solutions

Expert Solution

First of all we need to know that which organs are accessory digestive organs so they are tongue salivary glands , liver , gallbladder , pancreas,

So one by one we will see the similarities according to the organ.

Tongue and salivary gland that is mouth

So both of shark and mudpuppy dont have salivary glands and both uses mouth for tearing the food and mudpuppy use to chew and shark use to gulp. So these are the similarities in both organ

Now regarding of function of gall bladder then here also both have same function they stores the bile and use to release bile in duodenum both shark and mudpuppy so they are similar in this.

Pancreas both of the shark and mud puppy use to produce digestive enzymes from pancreas to break down bolus this is also same.

Liver here is also partially same shark liver rich in oil stores the fally acids for emergency and provides buoyancy and mud puppy produces emulsifer bile to break down fat.

So these two are very same in accessory digestive system.
