Read the two scenarios below. Identify which is sympatric speciation and which is allopatric speciation. Provide an explanation to support each answer.
Two species of bee orchids grow in the Mediterranean and are pollinated by different types of bees.
The Grand Canyon has geographically isolated the Kaibab squirrel from the Albert squirrel.
1.Two species of bee orchids grow in the Mediterranean and are pollinated by different types of bees is an example of sympatric speciation. Sympatric speciation is the process of evolution in which two groups of the same species lives in the same geographic condition but they evolved differently and forms new population.
Sympatric speciation involves two subpopulations of the same species which are occupying in same geographic location but they are able to divide into two different groups that genetically different from each other.
2The Grand Canyon has geographically isolated the Kaibab squirrel from the Albert squirrel is a an example of Allopatric speciation.Allopatric speciation is the process of evolution in which two populations of the same species are isolated from each other due to geographic conditions and which eventually evolved into different species. Kaibab squirrel has been geographically isolated from its common ancestor with its closest relative, the Albert squirrel.
