Urinary specific gravity will (increase, decrease not change) after drinking 3% sodium chloride.
ANSWER- it will INCREASE the specific gravity.
EXPLANATION- our plasma is 0.9% NCl which means any concentration above it is hypertonic and below it is hypotonic. Here, 3% is hypertonic. when a person drinks it, there will be homeostatic mechanisms distrubances as this not only affects the specific gravity of urine but can also cause even life threatining complications by altering the osmolarity of the plasma. The thirst centers signal to take fluids, Intra and extracellular fluid gets messed up and vasopressin levels go down in blood cause more blood filteration to remove the NaCl from the body. Kidneys filter and with less amout of reabsorption as to eliminate the salt, the water follows it but the specific gravity will be more than the normal (normal is around 1.010- 1.025 range) anything above is high specific gravity of urine (which means there are more salts ratio when compared with the water amount). Higher specific gravity is a concentrated urine.
