What is the term used for reactions or processes that are spontaneous and have a negative Gibbs Free Energy?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Gibb,s Free energy of spontanaeous processes :

According to first law of thermodynamics the total energy of isolated system always remains constant. Gibb,s free energy is atate function & is extensive property given by the following equation:

Delta G = Delta H -T Delta S

for spontanaeous processe delta S is alway positive i.e. Delta S >0.

   T Delta S- Delta H > 0

   Delta H -T Delta S < 0

     Therefore , Delta G < 0

Hence, for the spontanaeous processes Gibb,s free energy change is negative when the temperature is high. All spontanaeous processes are irreversibble.
