Write a paragraph commenting on the amount of pressure applied by the cytoplasm and cell membrane against the cell wall under, Turgid state and a state of plasmolysis in an Elodea cell(s) ( the state of plasmolysis is caused by introduction of salt water(
When a cell of plant is placed in hypotonic solution that is in solution where the molar concentration of the solute is less than of the cell, in that condition water will come inside the cell. This movement of water in elodea cell, which is an aquarium plant increase the pressure inside the cell. As water move inside the cell, protoplasm will exert a pressure in the cell wall and this condition is called as turgor.
The more the cell is hypotonic (high content of salt water), more is the water enter the cell, more is the water absorbed by the cell and more is the pressure generated in the cell.
When an elodea cell is placed in a hypertonic solution, that is in solution where the molar concentration of the solute is more than of the cell, in that condition water will go outside of the cell, and this condition is known as plasmolysis. In this condition, pressure exerted by the protoplasm will decrease and turgor will decrease.
