question is : Prepare a continuous improvement plan based on the review and critique of operations management principles within an RTA Dubai Metro .
Dubai started its metro network in the month of September, 2009, becoming the first urban metro network to run in Gulf’s Arab states. The system has simplified the daily commute for thousands of the people in the emirate.
In full operating form, Dubai Metro is projected to carry around 1.2 million passengers on a single average day, and 355 million passengers a year.
Operation Management - RTA ->
The Dubai Metro is run by Serco under contract to Dubai Roads and Transport Authority.
Red Line trains operated every 7 minutes off-peak (averaging 8.5 trains per hour), with a minimum headway of 3 minutes 45 seconds (16 trains per hour) during peak hours, with 44 trainsets in service. From 2010, when 51 trains were in service, the line had a peak-hour capacity of 11,675 passengers per hour in each direction. As of September 2014, the Red Line operates 60 trains. The theoretical maximum design capacity is 25,720 passengers per hour, which would require 106 trains.
The Green Line had an initial capacity of 6,395 passengers per hour per direction, with 19 trains (train registrations 5046-5064) in service as of September 2014. The design capacity of this route is put at 13,380 passengers per hour with 60 trains in service.
Continuous Improvement Plan ->
Improvements are to be made to Dubai Metro and Tram services from November 1, the emirate's Rail Agency said on Wednesday.
The unit of the Roads and Transport Authority said in a statement that it intended to "upgrade services, cater to the needs of riders and bring them happiness so that they reach their destinations faster".
Red Line services will start at 5am instead of 5.30am, while the Green Line will be in operation from 5.30am instead of 5.50am.
Dubai Tram operations will start at 6am, 30 minutes earlier than before, as of November 1.
According to the revised schedule, Dubai Metro Red Line would be operational from Saturday to Wednesday from 5am to midnight, while the Green Line services will be available from 5.30am to midnight. The Tram service will start from 6am to 1am on the following day.
On Thursdays, Dubai Metro Red Line will run from 5am to 1am the following day, while the Green Line will start at 5.30am to 1am the following day. The Tram service will run from 6am to 1am on the following day.
On Fridays, the Red and Green Lanes would run from 10am to 1am, while the Tram service will start at 9am and run until 1am.
Specific details about the November 1 service schedule adjustments were given by Mohammed Yousef Al Mudharreb, director of Rail Operations at RTA’s Rail Agency.
The Express Metro service has been improved by deploying trains in six stations, namely, Rigga, Emirates Towers, First Gulf Bank, Jumeirah Lakes Towers and the UAE Money Exchange.
The selected stations are the most used metro stations by passengers to get to their workplaces early. This would ease congestion at the first metro service at all stations.
