Why do you think that 46 chromosomes in a gamete cell would lead to a weaker gene pool? How might this have other implications in future generations?
Yes, the gametes with 46 chromosome represents the weaker gene pool. Because such gametes are prodyced by the process of mitosis. There is not found any crossing over and independent alignment event. This leads to decrease the genetic diversity in the gametes. And ultimately leads to a weaker gene pool.
The gametes which has 23 chromosome are undegone the process of meiosis. There is found crossing over and independent alignment event. This leads to increase the genetic diversity in the gamete. Hence it makes the gene pool stronger.
The ploidy of future generations will increases at each step. Because parent is diploid. It produces diploid gametes. The fusion of such gametes produces Tetraploid offspring. There are found four set of chromosome in zygote. Then it will produce the gametes in its reproductive phase with tetraploid gametes. In this way, the ploidy is increased at every generation.
