When writing a biology prac report, what is the difference between introduction and discussion ?
An introduction gives a briefing of the experiment that is about to be conducted. For example, while testing milk for microbial presence, the introduction will be about the types of milk that are being used, the method of testing that is about to be conducted and the expected results of the microbial test.
A discussion on the introduction will elaborate the introduction, by specifying why the specific type of test, milk samples have been chosen and why any alternative test was not chosen. The advantages and disadvantages of the test that is being conducted and an explanation behind the expected results. The implication of the test out of the laboratory can also be included.
A discussion on the result will be an elaboration of the results obtained. It could describe why such results were obtained under certain conditions that was similar or different from the introduction. If only discussion on result part is needed for the report, then some of the elements from discussion on the introduction part can be included.
