a. What light-sensing structure is made up of ommatidia?
b. What structures transfer electrical signals from the photoreceptors to the ganglion cells in the
vertebrate eye?
c. Blue light from a laptop screen enters a student’s eye. What is the correct order in which electrical
signals are sent to the student’s brain?
d. What step occurs third in for a photoreceptor converting a light stimulus into an electrical signal?
thank you in advance!
a)The eyes of the insect is made up of ommatidia. There are thousands of them in the insects eye.
b) the bipolar cells are present between photoreceptor cells and ganglia. So the bipolar cells transfer the signal to the ganglia.
c) the blue light enters the eye through cornea. Lens adjust the light to the retina. In retina the chromophore absorb light and change shape. Then the rodopsin in the blue con cell change shape. The degrades to retinal and opsin and reform. Then the signal is transferred to the ganglia through bipolar cell. The ganglia conduct the signal from the blind spot through optic nerve. The nerve passe through optic chiasm and reach the primary visual cortex and gives sense of vision.
d) the photoreceptor protein change shape.
The initial step is that the chromophore absorb the photon.
The next is chromophore change shape.
The fourth step is signal transduction cascade
The last one is change in membrane potential.
