You are heading a project to move your corporate website to the cloud. You insist that a project charter be created. Your project sponsor thinks this is a waste of time. Explain to your project sponsor the importance of this activity and what could go wrong if you skip this step.
In the feild of project management, a project charter could be defined as the project statement that would give the detaiked analysis about the scope of the project, the objective and who are the important stakeholders and participants of this project.
This project charter is a document which is made in the planning phase of the project management to depict and make a project start. It would provide the authority for the existence of the project and also helps in providing thr futute source for the reference of the project. Other importance of the same project charter is that it helps to provide ab effective direction for the movement of the project, helps in generating a sense of purpose for the project, ensure that all the project stakeholders and sponsors are in allignment for the project, the objectives and a single direction is outlined for the movement of the project.
If the company would end up skipping this step, the consequences would be adverse for the whole project to be moving forward. Firstly, the scope cannot be well understood by the people about what the project is all about. Secondly, this would affect the stakeholders and sponsors as people would like to invest in a project before having the detailed analysis and understanding the direction of the project. At last, one would end up working on a project with fewer stakeholders and no directions making uncertainity and risk to prevail and even fail the project to meet the necessary targets if the project charter is not developed.
