What is the dominant color with these x and y values? x=7/15, y= 7/15 (z= 1/15 of course)

Select one:
a. Reddish green
b. Greenish blue
c. Violet
d. Yellow

Solutions

Expert Solution

x,y,z mark the respective ratios of RED, GREEN and BLUE colors in the mix. We have the mixture of colors according to the following diagram:

x=7/15, y=7/15, which means that the amount of red and green is equal in the mix.

In the above color palette, we have to think of the diagram as the intersection of the red (bottom left), green (top) and blue (bottom right) hexagons. Thinking in this way, the red and green hexagons intersect in the areas 1 and 2 marked below:

Among these, the color in the area 2 is obtained when equal amounts of all 3 colors are taken, and the color in area 1 is obtained when the colors red and green are taken more than the color blue, which is the exact combination we have been given:

So, we shall get the color in area 1, i.e., yellow.

.

Check: This was the result after entering the amounts of red, green and blue in the ratio given above.
