UNIT VII DISCUSSION BOARD QUESTION

COLLAPSE

Considering the work experiences you have had, would you consider the companies you worked for as reactive or proactive with respect to business strategy? If a company you worked for (or currently work for) dealt with industrial waste, would you consider the company proactive or reactive? Discuss your explanation.

Expert Solution

- Considering the companies I work for, is the company proactive or reactive with respect to business strategy:

I worked for a food product based company which had multi food products in their chain. They owned a café and also a stream of baby products.

With respect to the business strategy in my opinion this company was reactive and not proactive. This is because, while working in the company I have seen the company only taking actions when they come through such situations and were never prepared for any unanticipated events.

One example for the same was that, once a customer who visited our café had a burger which was the basic one. This was one such product which was not concentrated upon by the company and therefore was a normal one at a lower cost for the economy customers. But when compared to other players like Mac Donald’s, this was a bit overpriced in the economy category.

The customer went and posted the same on the internet where hundreds of other customers read the same affecting the credibility of the company.

Here if the company had foreseen the coming of such events, they would have made the necessary arrangement for taking the feedback from the customer before he leaves the café so as to take the action to compensate his loss and make him happy which would eventually eliminate the posting of such issues.

And the company later on took this action and made a feedback platform to be answered by the customer before leaving the café.

- If the company was dealing with industrial waste, would I consider the company proactive or reactive?

In my opinion I would consider the company to be proactive, as they are treating the industrial waste before it become hazardous to the people living around the locality or region.

Such companies should be proactive only as they should be able to foresee the unanticipated risks which are involved with the leaving of industrial waste untreated in the vicinity of residential or human prone areas.

Information to read: Communications (Intro to Business course) Before we leave the topic of management, we must consider one of the important skills a manager can have, namely, the ability to communicate. Communication - the ability to successfully transmit and receive messages, whether in spoken or written form - is critical to the overall performance of any enterprise. On the surface the communication model is deceptively simple. We have a sender who transmits a message to a receiver and receives...
