Describe realism, liberalism, radicalism, and constructivism. Which do you think best describe the international system? Explain the reasons for your choice citing specific theories and examples.
In Realism, all the nation-states are unitary; with no authority above capable of regulating interactions between states as for them actually no true authoritative world government exists. This everyone comes into competition with one another and every nation pursues its own self-interest for its own security. But it could be dangerous sometimes, when need and feel of power grows too high. Example- today’s fight for Oil/ Energy resources
Liberalism is about the theme that a state should make its internal political philosophy the goal of its foreign policy. Example, eradication or minimization of poverty if is practises in the country, then it should be done my every nation. However, these factors may vary depending on culture, economic system or government, country to country. So same thought process might be difficult to apply for every nation in practical.
Radicalism comes through the beliefs or actions of people who advocate thorough or complete political or social reform. Now this could be used for good purpose to do good for society, as well as can be misused by politicians or some people by bring some unwanted revolutions or changes in society eco-balance. Example- Terrorism is born from such ideas to take others freedom to live.
Constructivism is shaped by persuasive ideas, collective values, culture, and social identities for the good sake of defining international structure, how this structure further is defining the interests and identities of states and how states and non-state actors can recreate/ reproduce this structure. It is the best for every nation. Example- Research and Development activities and measures for reducing global warming and it’s effects. It is beneficial and participatory for every nation, working towards a common global goal.
Hence, Constructivism is best in above all for the reasons and examples mentioned.
