Na+ K+ pump and how it uses ATP energy to create a resting potential
Conduction of Nerve impulse-
Due to Na+ K+ pump, out side of the axolemma always positive charge and inside of axolemma negative charge appears. This condition is called as resting membrane potential or polarization stage.
During Na+ K+ pump, 3 Na+ ions removed out side and 2 K+ carried inside against potential gradient by Active transport mechanism. For Active transport mechanism, required energy comes from hydrolysis of ATP.
NA+ K+ adinosine triphasphtase(ATPase) Enzyme is present in axolemma of Nerve cells. This Na+ K+ ATPase enzyme hydrolyzes to ATP in to ADP and iP.
ATP= adinosine triphasphate
ADP= adinosine diphasphate
iP = inorganic phasphate
Feel free to ask for further explanation and in case of any specific doubt I can answer in comment.
