1. a: What does the presence of the Cactus protein band in the “15’ “ lanes in extracts from theToll-,tube -, and pelle-mutants (Fig. 1B) indicate? Please help in detail.
1. B: What is the top band in Figs. 1A and 1B (and other Western blots) and how did the researchers use it to their advantage?
Q: What does the presence of the Cactus protein band in the “15’ “ lanes in extracts from theToll-,tube -, and pelle-mutants (Fig. 1B) indicate?
Ans: In mutant embryos that lack Toll, Tube, or Pelle, there was no degradation of Cactus protein in response to Spfitzle injection (Fig 1 B) indicates.
Q: What is the top band in Figs. 1A and 1B (and other Western blots) and how did the researchers use it to their advantage?
Ans: The high molecular weightband in each lane is a crossreacting band that can be used as an internal loading control (top band in Figs. 1A and 1B).
