Answer- Mitigation refers to the process that help in reducing the risk of life, property and natural resources from natural disasters or natural hazards. Mitigation strategies can be described with the help of the following points-

  • Land use planning can be an effective mitigation strategy to reduce the risk of natural disasters including floods, earthquakes etc.
  • Another strategy includes a reliable infrastructure for people's social and economic welfare. The essential infrastructure involves the basic requirements such as food, drinking water, health services etc. at the time of emergency.
  • The third mitigation strategy describes the structural works for reducing the risk of natural disasters. It focuses on the structures which are constructed to eliminate the risk of any danger by providing rock walls, earthquake resistant buildings and improved roads plans.
  • The fourth mitigation strategy describes an appropriate management and protection of landscapes and the environment by different private and goverment organisations. It involves climate planning, prediction of the frequency of natural disasters and the conservation of the coastel resources.
