3(a) What is the operating frequency of Zigbee and what is the wavelength?

(b). Explain the data format for the Zigbee protocol.

Solutions

Expert Solution

a) Operating frequency of Zigbee is 2.4 GHz in most jurisdictions worldwide; though there are some devices which use 784 MHz in China, 868 MHz in Europe and 915 MHz in the USA and Australia, but they still use 2.4 GHz for most commercial Zigbee devices.

Wavelength for the frequency of 2.4GHz is,

where C = Speed of light = 3x108 m/s and f = Frequency

So, wavelegth = 3x108 / 2.4x109

                     = 0.125 m

b) Data format for the Zigbee protocol :

We know that the frequency and wavelength of an oscillation are related by the velocity of the wave (recall from above that !=%&). In standing waves, the wave velocities of the different harmonics are the same.Think about why this may be and explain that in your notebook. (Hint: The wave velocity is dependent on the static properties of the oscillating object like mass per unit length and tension)
