Definition of Work, Energy,Power, and Torque
In Gasoline Engine
In Gasoline engine, net area of PV diagram gives the net work done during the cycle. It is also the difference between the work done during Power stroke and work done during compression stroke. Expansion takespace during power stroke isentropically.
In Gasoline engine, energy interaction takes place by heat. Heat is added and rejected during the cycle. Heat input and rejection takes place at constant volume. Power stroke converts the heat of energy released by the fuel burnt.
Gasoline engine produce power by rotating the whichh can exert on load. Power is the rate of doing work. It depends on torque and rpm. Gasoline engine power is the product of the torque and crankshaft's angular velocity.
Gasoline engine torque is the force to rotate the shaft about the axis. More the torque engine produces greater will be the ability of engine to perform work.
When piston moves, torque is the turning force that pushes down the piston, turns the crankshat and rotates the flywheel.
