Solve the simultaneous equations: 5x - 3y = 1,  2x + 5y = 19?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Solution:

We have:

                     5x - 3y = 1           - Eq. I

                        2x + 5y = 19        - Eq. II

Multiplying Eq. I by 2 and Eq. II by 5:

                         10x - 6y = 2              - Eq. III

                       10x + 25y = 95           - Eq. IV

Subtracting Eq. III from Eq. IV:

31y = 93

y = 93/31 = 3

Substitute y = 3 in Eq. I:

5x - 3 (3) = 1

5x - 9 = 1

5x  = 1 + 9

    ⇒ x  = 10/5 = 2

Thus, the solution of given equations is: x = 1, y = 3

Thus, the solution of given equations is: x = 1, y = 3
