Answer:
Writing notes is like summarizing the main points of any subject in a precise manner that can give the core of the subject. Writing notes in our own hand-writing is very useful compared to typing it on the computer. Note-taking is a skill because this is done during the lecture sitting in the classroom when the teacher is taking the lesson. Taking note requires certain strategies one student should adopt to have a clear and legible note, scribbling during the lecture time would not serve the purpose. A student should make a note keeping in mind that he has to read the note afterward, thus he has to take care that, there are certain basic Rs that one student should follow, to reduce getting confused, and use his own strategies also.
1. Record the note during the lecture, to note it down one has to improve listening skills, and write in down legibly.
2. Reduce: after the lecture is over the student should summarize the notes, take the important word as a cue word, during the lecture note down the meaning of the words that the lecturer explains in your own word, and have continuity in the note.
3. Recite; as recitation involve our senses like reading seeing and listening, it is better to recite and find out the flaws in the notes and correct it, read it in your own words that make it easier to remember the subject.
4. Reflect: While reciting try to think about the relevant information to co-relate with the notes, and try to for the originality in the lesson and, try to make it creative by your own ideas.
5.Review: Reviewing the notes is very important because it gives us a revision of the topic, and before starting a new topic it is better to review the previous notes, and we can observe that new ideas develop when we review our own notes.
There are different note-taking methods adopted like 1.Outline method 2. Cornell method, 3.Boxing method,4. Charting method, 5. Mapping method.
The strategy of note-taking would depend upon the subject, but out of various methods, I would commonly use the Cornell method and Mapping method as these methods would help me in my all the subjects like chemistry, mathematics, and intense lecture that requires attention as well as noting.
2. The note-taking strategy I would select as per the lecture, and my subject, preferably I would use Cornell method during the lecture that requires note-taking with some clues, in this method I would divide the page into sections with the title of the lesson on the top, with keywords, on the left-hand side of the page that should have space for comments, questions or hints about the actual notes followed by with the relevant notes in the main section, and there has to be placed for preparing summary at the end.
The second method I would use would be Mapping method, during the intense lecture, as the lecture content would be difficult and requires us to listen as well as note down the keywords and important points, I would use mapping methods that enable me dividing the main topic into branches, and establish relationships between the topics, in which the main topic is written on the top and goes on branching while using this method we have to be careful that it is drawn clearly and legibly.
Other note-taking methods can be used depending upon the need and topic of the subject, Note-taking is important for a student to understand the subject and learn it in his own words that makes understating the textbook easier.
