1. Describe the purpose of diffusion experiment.
2. Describe the purpose of osmosis experiment.
3. Describe the observation/results of the osmosis experiment.

Solutions

Expert Solution

1.In diffusion, molecules are moved from higher concentration to lower concentration area through a semipereable membrane. This movement is required for all the living organism, as this helps the transport of basic molecules required for the organisms. Thus the purpose of diffusion experiment in the lab is to understand how this basic process takes place.

2.On the other hand when water is moved from higher to lower concentration area through semipermeable membrane, though a concentration gradient, we called the process osmosis. Osmosis helps to transport water moleecules to the required areas. Thus in the lab we carry out experiments osmosis to understand how these basic mechanism takes place.

3, The observation of osmosis process is-

  • Water moves through the semipermeable membrane.
  • Water molecules are moved from higher concentraiton solution to lower concentration solution.
  • when the concentration between two areas are equal the osmosis process stop.
