Suppose x and y be the two numbers, with x being greater of the two.

From question:

             x + y = 35                Eq. I

      and  x - y = 13                 Eq. II

 

Adding Eq. I and Eq. II:

2x = 48

⇒ x = 48/2 = 24

 

Substitute x = 24 in Eq. I:

24 + y = 35

y = 35 - 24 = 11

 

Thus, the two numbers are: 24 and 11
