Research two different types of hospitals, preferably in your area, using the definitions provided in this week’s readings. How do the roles of the medical staff, governing board and administrators both hospitals differ because of the particular model they employ? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each model?

Solutions

Expert Solution

I live in Boston and have conducted research about 2 healthcare providers in the region.

  • Boston Medical Center: It is a government funded hospital which works on the Beveridge Model. The overall objective is to provide medical care to all, free of cost. The government acts like the cost payer for this system. The medical staff as well as the management is required to treat all patients alike and there must not be any kind of differential treatment to anyone.
    • Strength: The care is centered based on the patients. All patients are treated alike.
    • Weakness: This care model is quite vulnerable and can be over-exploited quite easily
  • Boston NAPS: It is a private healthcare provider which works on the National Health Insurance Model. It has good features of both Beveridge and Bismarck model. The healthcare is both government and private funded. The objective is to provide excellent health care services to all patients.
    • Strength: The service delivery is excellent and recovery rate of patients is high
    • Weakness: There can be differential treatment among the patients based on financial disposition
