Why did the United States become an imperial power in 1898, and how did that expansion compare to the previous history of U.S. foreign relations? How would you characterize U.S. relations with the rest of the world in the years between 1898 and WWI?

The American imperialism started in 1898, after the American-Spanish war. It started because the American warship exploded in Havana and the US declared war against Spain. Just after the six weeks, the US had the complete power in Havana. From this process, they had control over Cuba, Hawaii, Puerto Rica, Philipines as their territory. The economic consequences after 1898 were the industrialization. There is high demand in American industries on natural resources. The success of the US economy and their effective constitution and the growth of per capita income of the US citizens shows the positive trends. The united states different mission called spread liberty and democracy. From 1898 to 1919 called the age of imperialism in US history. In this period the country has social, political and economic control over the countries mentioned above.

The policy called open door, the US established in the late eighteenth century and early twentieth century. This proposed to keep trade relation with China and all other countries on an equal basis. The open door policy gives the US business to root in the Chinese market.
