1. Option 'A' (high) is correct
Justification: Intracranial pressure (ICP),
pressure exerted by brain, blood and CSF, would be high for a
patient with cerebrovascular accident (CVA), which is medical term
for stroke. During the cerebrovascular accident, intracranial
pressure will be increased due to increased cerebral blood volume
or edema caused by stroke.
Justification for incorrect options:
- Options 'B' and 'C' are incorrect because intracranial pressure
(ICP) would be increased for a patient with cerebrovascular
accident (CVA) due to the cerebral edema, but NOT low or
normal.
2.
- Grand mal - Tonic-clonic or convulsive seizure,
Sometimes medical emergency
- Absence seizure - Petit mal
- Status epilecticus - Medical emergency
Justification:
- Grand mal seizure involves loss of consciousness and muscle
contractions, causes usually by epilepsy. It also causes low blood
sugar, high fever or a stroke. It sometimes will be a medical
emergency.
- Absence seizures are sometimes called petit mal. They causes
rapid blinking or a few seconds of staring into space.
- Status epilecticus is a medical emergency because any seizure
which lasts for more than 5 minutes or more than 1 seizure within 5
minutes without returning to normal conscious levels is called
status epilecticus and this can even lead to death.
3.
Ibuprofen - NSAID
Valium - Anticonvulsive
Tylenol - Tranquilizers
Sinemet - Dopamine agonist
Carfergot - Regulates serotonin
Phenobarbital - Anticonvulsive
Justification:
- Ibuprofen belongs to a class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (NSAIDS). These are used to treat mild to moderate pain,
inflammation and fever.
- Other name for valium is diazepam and it belongs to a class of
benzodiazepine anti-convulsants.
- Other name for tylenol is acetaminophen and it is an
anti-anxiety drug which helps to relieve tension or anxiety.
- Sinemet is used a dopamine agonist which helps in treating
Parkinson's disease.
- Carfergot belongs to a class of anti-migraine drugs and helps
in treating headaches, migraines. It constricts blood vessels and
effects brain receptors like serotonin.
- Phenobarbital belongs to a class of barbiturate
anti-convulsants or hypnotics. It helps in controlling abnormal
electrical activity in the brain occurring due to seizures.
4. Option 'C' (originates outside of the brain) is
correct
Justification: Secondary brain tumors are also
known as metastatic brain tumors and they originate in another part
of body and then spread to the brain. So, they will originate
outside of the brain.
Justification for incorrect options:
- Option 'A' is incorrect because secondary brain tumors will be
originated in other parts of brain outside the brain and then
spreads to the brain but they will NOT originate in the brain. So,
this option is incorrect.
- Option 'B' is incorrect because secondary brain tumors are
always 'malignant' which is very infectious, but NOT benign.
Thank you!
