Facial Recognition Software, is a technology is capable of identifying or verifying a person from

a digital image or a video frame from a video source. There are multiple methods in which facial recognition systems work, but in general, they work by comparing selected facial features

from given image with faces within a database.

It is also called Biometric Artificial intelligence based application that can uniquely identify a person by analyzing patterns based on the person's facial texture and shape.

Uses: Initially a form of computer application, it has seen wider use , now on mobile platform and in other forms of technology such as Robotics.

It is typically used as access control in Security System. As it is less famous as compared to Iris recognition and fingerprint recognition, it is widely adopted due to contactless and non- invasive process.

Recently, it has also become popular as a commercial identification and marketing tool.

Other applications include advanced human- computer interaction, video surveillance, automatic indexing of images and video database.

Advantage/In defense-

One key advantage of a facial recognition system that it is able to person mass identification so that human error could be avoided.Properly designed system installed in airports, multiplexes and other public places can identify individual among the crowd, without passers-by even being aware of the system..

Disadvantage/Opposition-As compared to other

biometric technique, face recognition may not be most reliable and efficient. Quality measure is very important in facial recognition systems ad large degree of variations are possible in face images.

Some factors like; illumination, expression, pose and noise during face capture affect the facial recognition system. Among all biometrics, facial recognition has the highest false acceptence and rejection rates..Angle of the face can also give different results. Besides the pose variations, low resolution face images are also very hard to recognize. This is only one obstacle among numbers. Even smile or neutral face expression change the result.

Data stored about face or biometric can be assessed by the third party if not stored properly and it can be misused . It would be big harm for security system.
