calculate the molarity if a sufficient amount of water is used to prepare 946.5ml of solution containing 64.43g Lico3( molar mass =73.89g/ mol

Solutions

Expert Solution

Mass of lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) = 64.43 g

Molar mass of lithium carbonate = 73.89 g/mol

Moles of lithium carbonate = mass of lithium carbonate / molar mass of lithium carbonate

                                           = 64.43 g / 73.89 g/mol

                                           = 0.8720 mol

Volume of the solution = 946.5 mL = 0.9465 L    ( 1 mL = 0.001 L)

Molarity = moles of solute / liter of solution

             = 0.8720 mol / 0.9465 L

             = 0.9213 M

Hence, the molarity of the solution = 0.9213 M
