If ATP synthase makes ATP in the absence of the proton motive force, why is the PMF required?
If ATP synthase makes ATP in absence of proton motive force, the PMF required because:
Proton motif force is the energy rich unequal distribution of protons established across the mitochondrial membrane.
ATP synthase is an enzyme which uses PMF to generate or synthesizes ATP.
Proton motif force is used to translocate the protons through ATP synthase.
when protons are move down their electrochemical gradient then ATP synthase makes ATP from ADP and Pi.
In this way PMF is required or it is very important for transfer of protons because if protons are not transfer then there is no synthesis of ATP takes place.
