A federal government department has high levels of absenteeism among the office staff. The head of office administration argues that employees are misusing the company's sick leave benefits. However, some of the mostly female staff members have explained that family responsibilities interfere with work. Using the MARS model. as well as your knowledge of absenteeism behavior, discuss some of the possible reasons for absenteeism here and how it might be reduced.

There are four possible reason of absenteeism according to the MARS model are motivation, ability, role perception and situational factor. In absentism employee should be away from their actual work because they dont want to attend that work due to lack of motivation, department donot hire the employee according to their ability, they dont realize this is their work due to role perception issue, sometimes enviromental condition also prevent them to attend the work due to situational factor. some absentism in man and women is also due to the sick leave policies. it is generous sick leave benefits reduce attendance motivation,

following steps should be taken to reduce absentism-----------

1. special bonus, prefrences in promotion to regular employees encourage workers to be regular in their attendence.

2. Good working enviroment can also help to reduce absentism in the company by making work enviroment pleasent.

3. proper hiring should be done so that employee are hired according to their capabilities to perform the task.

4. Effective supervision should be followed to reduce absentism .
