Use the mean value that you determined for keq to calculate the SCN- concentration in a whose initial Fe3+ concentration was 4x10^-2 M and initial SCN- concentration was 1x10^-3 M. Is all of the SCN- in the form of FeNCS2+ My Keq was 451.51

Solutions

Expert Solution

             Fe^3+ (aq) + SCN^- (aq) ------------> FeNCS^2+(aq)

I           0.04                 0.001                             0

C          -x                    -x                                    +x

E         0.04-x            0.001-x                            +x

         Kc   = [FeNCS^2+]/[Fe^3+][SCN^-]

       451.51 = x/(0.04-x)(0.001-x)

      451.51*(0.04-x)(0.001-x)   = x

       x = 0.000946

   [Fe^3+]    = 0.04-x   = 0.04-0.000946    = 0.039054M

[SCN-]     = 0.001-x   = 0.001-0.000946   = 5.4*10^-5M

   [FeNCS^2+]   = x   = 0.000946M
