In Acetamide, what are the intermolecular forces that exist?
In acetamide, there are two types of intermolecular attraction forces –
1. Dipole-dipole interaction
2. Hydrogen bonding.
When electronegativity difference between two atoms is greater than 1.7, then the bond becomes polar, i.e. a dipole is created. When two dipoles of opposite charges attracted each other is called dipole-dipole interaction.
Hydrogen bonding is a type of attractive force between H-atom ( attached to a more electronegative atom ) and with another electronegative atom ( generally O, N, F ).
