Explain, in your own words (150~300 words), why the common conception of a “gene for trait X” may be misleading. [Hint: Think about what the connection between a genotype and a phenotype is, and what additional factor(s) may come into play]
We inherit our genetic trait from our parents and related ancestors. Our phenotypic characteristics are govern by our genetic composition (genotypic) and that makes each individual unique. When it comes to a single trait that may or may not impact the particular characteristics or phenotypic feature for an individual. A single trait is influence by multiple factors after birth in an individual. For example suppose a trait "X" is responsible for making a protein "Z" and due to the unhealthy lifestyle and diets intake a protein X is affected which can lead to disfunction in it's activity that ultimately results in a genetic disorder that means body is not able to make the protein Z now effectively. Phenylketonuria protein disorder can be related to above scenario where the disorder is related to autosomal recessive gene PAH (phenylalanine hydroxylase). This disease can lead to inborn error of metabolism and other complications like mental retardation.
So based on the above discussion we can conclude that a gene or trait "X" functions by getting influence by multiple factors and any phenotypic or gentopic charcateristics are observed is a result of both environmental and genetic factors.
