the assignment is to compare and contrast two ads. Make sure the ads are similar enough to be compared and different enough to be contrasted: two soap ads, two cereal ads, two ads that are for baby products, etc

For this comparison I’ve selected to compare 2 car ads. The first ad I selected was from the car journal ‘Autocar’ & this is an ad for a Chrysler PT Cruiser. The 2nd advert I selected was from the ‘Sunday Times’ & it is for a Fiat Ulysse. I chose these 2 adverts as I feel that they’ll be apt for comparison as they have similarities & differences so there’re several things I can comment about. There’s a huge distinction in the sale tactics of these 2 adverts. The Fiat is a soft selling advert as there’s no reference to the price level of the vehicle / any statistics about the vehicle . On the other hand, the Chrysler ad displays the price level in big digits at the top of the ad &it also mentions the fuel consumption of the vehicle. This shows that the 2 ads utilize different tactics to promote & sell the car.The target audience for these vehicles are the same; both are family cars. Both are designed to be comfy & safe, they’re not advertised to be fast sports automobiles or stylish city automobiles; they’re advertised as normal vehicles. In both of the ads there’s no actual reference towards the performance of the vehicle apart from in the Chrysler’s ad where there’s a mention of the fuel usage but this supports the point that its a car for a prudent family individual because that’s the kind of individual who would have interest in the economics of the vehicle. Both the ads have chief points that they want you to concentrate on as soon as you see them, on the Chrysler ad the 1st thing they want you to concentrate upon is the name of the vehicle & the price level which are in bold fonts at the top of the page, Fiat wants you to concentrate on the name of the vehicle which is written in big letters diagonally.
