Explain how the use of glass walls gives rise to heating in a greenhouse. Be brief.
Greenhouses do not maintain the heat that is built up during the day. You may use some solar type practices to maintain the heat, but most people will just use a supplemental heater. We like the Southern Burner heater. It is natural gas or propane, is placed under a bench, requires no electricity (this is a great thing if you have a power outage) and has a thermostat so you can set it to the actual temperature you want.
As far as the light, if you have a typical greenhouse covering on your roof such as greenhouse polyfilm, polycarbonate or glass, you should be getting 80 - 90% light transmission. This will be enough for most plants, even with the lower winter sun. You should also make sure that you have your greenhouses properly situated so it is getting the full days sun. If this is not sufficient, there are several types of supplemental lighting which can be used, such as LED or HID or florescent.
