Using information theory, If there are 8 gold bars that look the same, if a fake gold bar has a different but unknown weight that could be more or less, than what is the most efficient way to use balance to identify the fake gold bar?

Solutions

Expert Solution

There are 8 coins.Take a weigt measure of measuring both sides. Four coins are put on each side.

One side is heavier than the other. If this is the case, remove the coins from the lighter side, move two coins from the heavier side to thFour coins are put on each side.

One side is heavier than the other. If this is the case, remove 4 coins from the lighter side, move 2 coins from the heavier side to the other heavier side.If one of the side is heavier then gold present in the heavier side and then measure the weight of the heavier side and you will get heavier gold. 2: In the case of lighter gold ,put the 4 gold on each side ,kepp the 4 golds which are heavier aside.Put 2 golds of ligher 4 golds oneach side of weight measure and take the 2 golds which are heavier .keep them aside. Now the final move is put 1 gold of the lighter one each side .The gold with lighter weight os your lighter gold .

Seven thieves try to share a hoard of gold bars equally between themselves. Unfortunately, six bars are left over, and in the fight over them, one thief is killed. The remaining six thieves, still unable to share (all) the bars equally since two are left over, again fight, and another is killed. When the remaining five share (all) the bars, one bar is left over, and it is only after yet another thief is killed that an equal sharing is...

Suppose there are n (>=3) gold bullions, where one of them is fake. However, we do not know whether the fake one is heavier or lighter than the genuine ones. All the genuine ones weigh the same. In this problem, you are asked to use a balance scale to find the fake one in o(n) steps (little-o). NO pseudo-code is needed, only describe your answers to the following questions: (25pts)(1) What are your bases cases? How do you solve your...

Construct a histogram of your empirical data using eight bars and then five bars. For consistency's sake, for eight bars use the class width of 0.125. So, your first bar will be 0.000-0.124, your next bar will be 0.125 - 0.249, etc. For five bars, use the class width of 0.2. So, your first bar will be 0.00-0.19, your next bar will be 0.2-0.39, etc. Upload both pictures of your histograms. ***Below are my 50 random numbers. What do I...
