I am doing a project on cancerous cell types and I've already identified 20 kinds, the tissues they effect, and the exact disease they cause. There are multiple other steps to the project that I am struggling with. This involves finding biochemicals (such as lipids, proteins, etc) associated with specific cancer cell types, the metabolic pathways they effect, membrane proteins (such as growth factors) and membrane protein transporters associated with the cancer cell type.
Could someone give me an idea on what databases or websites to search for for this type of information? I don't want the work done for me, just some hints on how I can find this information. I will list the exact instructions our professor gave us below.
----------
Use your Human Cancerous Cells examples from Module I and find if they have some very characteristic biochemical(s) that define the cells.
Describe chemicals that are unique for these cells
Give at least 5 examples.
----------
Use your examples of human cancerous cells and find affected metabolic pathways that identify each of them.
Affected metabolic pathways
Find at least 5 examples from your cancerous cells that have
affected metabolic pathways. These examples should have different
affected pathways
----------
Use your examples of human cancerous cells and identify possible membrane components that are affected and unique for these type of cells.
Identify affected membrane functions
Give at least 5 examples from your cancerous cells showing affected
membrane proteins. These examples should have different affected
proteins.
----------
Use your examples of human cancerous cells and identify possible membrane protein transporters that are affected and unique for these type of cells.
Affected transporting proteins
Identify affected membrane protein transports
Give at least 5 examples from your cancerous cells showing affected
membrane proteins that are involved in transportation. These
examples should have different affected proteins.
Cancer cell forms a solid tumor, the cancer cells are circular and undifferentiated.Cancer cells shows continuous and undifferentiated growth. The cancer cells loses the property of contact inhibition that means normal cells stops the cell division after coming in contact with the adjacent cells. The cancer cells sometimes becomes resistant to the antitumor drugs. The cancer cells shows certain receptors on their cell surface ,On usage of these anti tumor drugs, cancer cells is converted into a stem cell like stage . Biochemical findings such as tumor markers helps in the diagnosis of certain types of cancer.Tumor Markers are certain proteins that are produced by both normal and cancer cells but it is produced in high concentration by the cancer cells. For example:- In the case of prostatic cancer ,PSA for the prostate specific antigen is increased in its level in the blood.
The Image shows more than 5 examples of the Tumor markers in different types of cancer such as the Prostatic and breast cancer as shown in the image .
Thanking you
