What are some of the things that led to the classification of the Homo genus? In other words, how does Homo differ from Australopithecus/Paranthropus?
Ans- Things that lead to classification of Homo genus are-
*(Belongs to the family hominidae (order-primates))
1) It includes the extinct genus of homosapiens , h habilis H.erectus ,H.neanderthalensis, and the early form of homosapiens , cro Magnon
2) some of the primitive traits that occur in Australopithecus such as small teeth , reduced chin associated with the later species of Homo.
3) characterized by a relatively large cranial capacity, limb structure adapted to a habitual erect posture and a bipedal gait, well-developed and fully opposable thumbs, hands capable of power and precision grips, and the ability to make standardized precision tools, using one tool to make another.
Homo as well as Australopithecus are bipedal . But homo is more like humans while Australopithecus similar to human- ape hybrid .
The main difference was that genus homo were tool makers while Australopithecus were not.
