What is the precentage by mass of oxygen in CaCO3?

What is the precentage by mass of oxygen in CaCO3?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Mass of Ca = 40.08 g
Mass of C = 12.01 g
Mass of O : 16.00 x 3 = 48.00

Therefore the total mass of the CaCO3 = 40.08 + 12.01 + 48.00

                                                                 = 100.09 g

Now determine the % of each elementof the molecule using the following formula:
Mass of part / total mass x 100 = Ca

                                                    =40.08 / 100.09 x 100

                                                     = 40.04 % Ca

For Carbon                                 =12.01 / 100.09 x 100

                                                   = 12.00 % C

For Oxygen                                 = 48.00 / 100.09 x 100

                                                    = 47.96 % O
