What are the advantages and disadvantages of implementing Design
of Experiment based on
factorial design and One Factor at a Time (OFAT)? Give examples to
your answer!
Given,
Design of experiments (DoE):-
Advantages:-
It estimates effects of each factor more precisly the more the experiment.
More the number of observations, more is the precision
It cores larges experimental space
It requires less resources for amount of information obtained.
The interaction between varoius factors can be estimated systematically.
Disadvantages:-
Experiments with less probability of success needs to be run.
The more number of factors can create ambuigity.
Certain assumptions might be required.
OFAT(One factor at a time)
Advantages:-
It can be eaisly interpeted and is widely used.
It is more selective approach to problems.
It improves modularity of complex systems with larger number of factors.
It is a srtraight forward approach and more of conventional way of experiment.
Observing and selecting single factor at a time can reduce ambiguity (other factors being fixed and single factor is chnaged)
Distvantages:-
It has limited coverage of the experimental space.
Selecting a single factor at a time can guide you away from the optimal solution.
The Interaction between various factors cannot be detrmined.
It uses resources inefficiently.
