Spine is the most important part in the body. To keep the body
upright is not possible without the spine. The spine also protects
our spinal cord. Spinal cord is a column of nerves that connect the
brain to rest of the body and control the movements.
24 small bones called vertebrae together make spine. Between
these vertebrae there is a structure called disc that absorb
pressure. The specific parts that make spine are given below.
- Vertebrae- it support and protect the spinal cord.
- Intervertebral disc- these are cushion like structures that
absorb the shock and pressure.
- Facet joints- these are boney knobs also called as synovial
joints. They allow the movement between two bones.
- Neural foramen- nerve roots usually travel through the foramen
to reach out the whole body. Without this nerve signals will not
travel that will impair the body function.
- Paraspinal muscles- these are muscles next to the spine and it
support the movement of spine.
- Lumbar spine- lower part of the spine is known as lumbar spine.
It maintains the correct posture of the back. Any default in the
posture of this region can cause serious problem like
lordosis.
