Based upon the equation for potential energy, how does the potential energy change when the gravity is lower than it is on Earth
Example... gravity on the moon is 1.6 m/s2
Describe any differences you see in potential and kinetic energy
between the Earth and Jupiter.
Describe any differences you see in potential and kinetic energy
between the Earth and the moon.
Is the question statement correct.?????
Potential energy equation is mgh
For given mass and height, the potential energy depends on gravity (g).
Therefore, potential energy on a planet where gravity is lower, will be less.
Example - Let's assume an object of mass 10 kg is raised to a height 5 m on earth and moon then
P.E (earth) = 10*9.8*5 = 490 J
P.E (moon) = 10*1.6*5 = 80 J

Describe any differences you see in potential and kinetic energy between the Earth and Jupiter
As far as kinetic energy is concerned, it willl be same on both the planets
However, Potential energy will be different.
The gravity on jupiter 24.79 m/s2
Therefore, potential energy will be much higher (for fixed mass and height)
