Would you agree that there are generational differences when it comes to communication preferences and the level of formality in writing and communications? And, can you find research to support your position on this?
I do agree that there generational differences in communication differences and the level of formality in the communication. In particular, face to face communication has now paved way to the use digital interactive technologies for communication. Although individuals belonging to different generations are familiar with the use of internet to communicate, there is a preference among older generations to engage in face-to-face interactions or phone calls, while younger generations use social media and text messaging to communicate, and feel the need to be in constant communication with others. Because of these preferences, there is also a shift when it comes to formality in writing. Younger generations are now using language which is much more informal, and the use of slangs have become commonplace. There also seems to be an evolving vocabulary of informal words that are in fact making their way into the lexicon as well.
