Cultural framework for communication from Hofstede defines the effect of a society's culture on the values of its members, and, their relation to behaviour using a structure derived from factor analysis. Culture is defined as collective programming of the mind which distinguishes members of a group or category of people from another. The dimensions of the framework are power distance, individualism vs. collectivism, Femininity vs. Masculinity, Long-term Orientation, and, Uncertainty Avoidance.
Language barrier creates tension in communication. Individuals struggle to communicate in others' language. Individuals may get alienated. If there are language differences one cannot get feedback while having a conversation. It can lead to communication breakdown, and, miscommunication. Interpreters are considered insulting.
The costs are high as it does not encourage, and, promote open communication in diverse teams. Business deals may suffer if another organization's styles, and, values are disliked by the other.
Individualist, and, collectivist theories - In Individualist societies' ties are loose, and, individuals look out for themselves. In collectivist societies, people are integrated into strong cohesive groups. Protection is given for loyalty.
Autocratic, or, power-oriented dimension means that the leader makes deviations without reference to anyone else; it creates a high degree of dependency; it creates demotivation, and, alienation.
Masculinity, or, feminity is for conflict resolution. Masculinity is for competition, equity, and, performance. Femininity is for solidarity, equality, and, quality of work life.
Power distance is about Hierarchy, and, a person being head of the family, organization, etc.

Examples of power distance - Germany, USA, Scandinavia, and, United Kingdom
Uncertainty avoidance - a tolerance of risk, and, ambiguity
