Reptiles are the type of animals who do not require to regulate their body temperatures. These are ectothermic, and attempt to keep their body temperature at optimal so as to function in an effective manner.

Reptiles tended to evolve from amphibians due to their terrestrial adaptions. There had been evolution of amniotic membranes led to the formation of embryos that allowed lesser dependence of the embryos on water. As a result of this difference, reptiles distinguished from amphibians.

Aminotes had evolved 340 million years ago. Sauropsides, divided into anapsids as well as diopside, which further divided into birds as well as reptiles. Diopsids further divided snakes as well as modern lizards. Amino testing had evolved. Diapsids further diverged into lepidosauromorpha as well as archosauromorpho.

The adaptations include:
