An epigenetic modification is a changes takes place in the genome, that is afar the DNA sequence. for an example: our body contains many cells, all of them look different and they play various functions but they contain the same genome. How it happens? They actually demonstrate various genes sets. By demonstrate, it mean that different sets of genes are used. Few genes used in brain cells, some are used in liver cells. This method must be regulated accurately and specifically. Furthermore, when cells divide, like liver cells, the daughter cells are similar to their mother cell, and this is same for all cell types. Thus, epigenetic modifications are the modifications that confirm the profiles of gene expression that are heritable during cell division.
Scientists aims to explain the DNA modifications molecular function in normal cells as well as cancer. By using different approaches they investigate the DNA modifications role in transcription, mutability, heritability, nuclear organisation. Cooperatively with proceeding of knowledge, research characterises the cancer defects and target them for therapy. Cancer cells show specific epigenetic deformity that can be aimed for cancer therapies.
