PetSmart is one of the pet industry that provides pet animal products and services including grooming, dog training, PetsHotel and everyday adoption centers operating in United States, Canada and Puerto Rico own by investment company BC Partners. Jim Dougherty and Janice Dougherty founded the company in 1986 in Phoenix, Arizona. In the initial phase the name was PetFood Warhouse. The company name was changed to PetMart which later chnaged to PetSmart. With the demand in their services, at present there are over 55,000 Associates, 1,600 pet stores, partnering with more than 3,500 Animal Welfare Organization and facilitated more than 8 million adoptions. The company also have got an independent non profit organization called Petsmart Charities that envisage on giving grants for helping pet-in-need of help.

There are some reasons that lead to the success of PetSmart. According to research conducted by Human Animal Bond Research Initiative Foundation, there is a correlation between having pet and health of the owner. This implies the increase in demand for those concern about their health. It is also seen that the love for pet animal as an instinct where in which they treat as equal to as human being.
