Question 1: HR Professional Ethics Part A: Read the SHRM Code of Ethics. Review the guidelines under the category of Professional Development. Propose and discuss a learning opportunity that you will pursue to achieve one or more goals related to these guidelines. Part B: Discuss three examples of ethical challenges that HR professionals may encounter as they apply to modern organizations. Discuss how you would address each situation (not necessarily the solution, but how you would approach the problem).
Answer- Part-A
To achieve the professional development's guideline goal of
committing to continuous learning, skills development, and
application of new knowledge relating to both human resource
management, and my company work field. I would indulge myself in
taking online courses using resources such as Lynda, Udemy, etc. I
feel online courses would be more helpful to me in learning and
developing skills for my job. Taking an online course would be more
convenient and faster to complete since it is online, which means I
can have the classes at my disposal anytime. With online courses, I
can learn new skills that will be beneficial to my job, as I will
be able to perform better and effectively. An additional learning
opportunity I would pursue is executing diligence in learning about
my role in the company. As the company, I work for is a career path
I would like to further and advance in.
Answer-PART- B
The three ethical challenges that HR professionals may encounter is
discrimination and Harassment. People can be discriminated against
and harassed in the workplace because of their race, gender, sexual
preference, appearance, religion, etc. As an HR, it is an HR job to
make sure the organization remains compliant with the
anti-discrimination and harassment laws. The solution I would use
to approach the problem is to address it since it is against the
Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Additionally, I would let the employees know about these acts so
they can be aware of and avoid the problem. Also, there would be
training and awareness programs that every employee would be
required to attend.
Furthermore, if I were ever to see these behaviors to continue, I
would report and penalize workers who display these inappropriate
behaviors. The second ethical challenge would be harmony issues
with diverse individuals. Certain demographics of people in the
workplace may have biased feelings towards a person of a different
diverse group. Therefore, displaying a lack of harmony amongst
employees can result in conflict, low morale, and lack of
productivity. Also, the failure of having no harmony in a workplace
will create an unfavorable environment for employees to work in and
will lead to the company being put at risk. An excellent way to
handle this issue is through workshops training, where employees
are in a position to interact, learn the backgrounds of everyone,
and embrace their differences. A workshop will assist employees in
recognizing how each experience and background is an asset to their
team and organization. Each member can bring creativity, different
ideas, opinions, and outlooks that will make significant changes to
the company going forward. The third and last ethical challenge is
Social media. Social media can be a huge distraction when workers
are continually implementing it into their work time. It wastes
time and takes energy away from the employee’s performance. An
effective way to handle this is to have a technology policy. Having
a technology policy allows the organization to limit technology use
for personal reasons. Furthermore, companies can police what
employees share about the organization that has no place on the
World Wide Web as well.
