Which evolutionary process would you argue is currently causing the largest impact on the evolution of the tropical field cricket in the Hawaiian islands? Be sure to explain why this evolutionary process is having a greater impact than other evolutionary processes. You will be evaluated on the plausibility and provided support (citations needed) of your response

Expert Solution

Evolutionary process which lead to latest evoultion of field cricket in Hawaiian island is change in the wing shape in male cricket by a single mutation.

Normal males-- have wings with a teeth and scraper, when the wings rubbed together they produce a chirp sound. This behavior is involved in mating , the sound attavt femakes during mating. But if there are flesh eating fly are present in that area , they sense the chirp sound and after following they lay their eggs on the back of cricket. And due to this reason , maggots larva cause death of the cricket.

By causing single mutaion in their wings, they allow development of wings which do not make chirp sound thus lead to their survival in the area where flesh eating flies are present. After mutaion , wings of males are more like similar to females which do not make noise. Mutaion sone what cause deepening of auditory cross deeper thus making them silent and leads to their survival in Hawaiian island which is having flesh eating flies.
