Which of the following is not a true difference between animal cells and plant cells? Circle all statements that are not true.
A) Plant cells have cell walls around them, while animal cells do not
B) Plant cells contain chloroplasts, while animal cells never do
C) Plant cells have DNA in the form of chromosomes, while animal cells do not
D) Plant cells can store water in a central vacuole, something not found in animal cells
 E) Plant cells have a complex internal organization, while animal cells are very simple, comparable to ‘empty rooms’

Solutions

Expert Solution

Incorrect statements are ( C,E )

C. All living organisms have DNA as their genetic material. Plants have dna in mitochondria and chloroplast and nucleus. DNA in the plant cell is arrenged in the form of chromosomes but less compared to animal cell.

The animal cell also have dna in nucleus and mitochondria .

Its function is carry genetic information and perform protein synthesis.

Animal cell dna is much complicated than the plant cell.

So from the above information option (C) is incorrect or not true statement.

E. Plant cell and animal cells have very complex organization but some organelles are different from plant cell to animal cell like chloroplast and vacuole in  plant cell are absent in animal cell..

So this statement (E) is also incorrect.

True statements explaination.

A. Plant cells have cell wall but animal cell do not have cell cell wall.

Animal cell is having plasma membrane acts as cell wall.

B. Only plants contain chroplast because it performs photosythesis where as animal cell donot have chloroplast and does not perform photosynthesis.

D. Plant stores water in the vacuole and where as in animal cell may or may not have vacuole.

This vacuole in the plant cell acts food reservoir and stores food and water

A difference between plant and animal osmoregulation is that ___. Animals use aquaporins to facilitate osmosis, but plants do not. Animal cells need to be hypoosmotic to their surroundings, whereas plant cells need to be hyperosmotic to their surroundings. Animals need high cytosolic Ca++, whereas plants must maintain low cytosolic Ca++. Plants require nitrogen but animals do not. Animals create nitrogenous waste but plants do not. Land animals are osmotic regulators but plants are osmotic conformers.
